NCSY, a program of the Orthodox Union, connects with Jewish teens through innovative, cutting-edge social and recreational programs to develop a positive Jewish identity. NCSY inspires Jewish teens through informal Jewish education, retreats and summer programs. NCSY empowers teens through leadership development and guidance to become passionately committed leaders of the Jewish community and instruments for positive change and renewal.
Position Overview:
We are excited to welcome a passionate and driven individual to serve as the Philadelphia NCSY & JSU Director. In this dynamic role, you will lead and oversee all NCSY and Jewish Student Union (JSU) programs and initiatives across Philadelphia. Your primary focus will be to inspire and connect with Jewish high school students in Jewish day school and public and secular private schools, creating opportunities for them to strengthen their Jewish identity and build a vibrant, supportive community.
As the NCSY & JSU Director, you will play a key role in fostering meaningful Jewish engagement, empowering students on their Jewish journey, and cultivating an inclusive space where they can grow and thrive. This full-time position reports directly to Greater Philadelphia’s NCSY District Director.
Duties, Responsibilties and Accountabilities:
JSU Club Activities
- Organize, promote and execute weekly, biweekly, and monthly JSU clubs at public and secular private schools across Philadelphia which promote Jewish pride, education, and community.
- Responsible for all aspects of running the club which includes the education, supplies, food and data collection.
- Manage each club's boards as well as the Philadelphia JSU Student Executive board including but not limited to consistent board meetings and training student leaders in planning and assisting in programming.
Outside the Club Engagement
- Run a variety of weekly and monthly social, educational, holiday and social action programming to engage teens outside the club
- Host 1-2 Shabbos meals per month
- Recruit and attend Regional and National programs such as Presidents' Conference, Yarchei Kallah, Regional Shabbatons, Senator Cardin Jewish Scholars Program
- Recruit for JSU and NCSY Summer programs
Student Engagement
- Serve as a mentor and role model of someone who is leading an inspired Jewish life
- Build relationships with teens through creating a welcoming environment
Community Outreach
- Cultivate relationships with local synagogues, Jewish organizations, and community leaders to expand outreach and impact of NCSY and JSU in Philadelphia
- Collaborate with school administrators and teachers to integrate NCSY and JSU programing into school curriculum and extracurricular activities.
- Promote NCSY and JSU events and activities through social media, newsletters, and school announcements
Administrative Responsibilities
- Take attendance at all clubs and input data into Iceberg every week
- Weekly meeting with direct manager
- Attend bi-monthly regional meetings at the Atlantic Seaboard NCSY office in Baltimore
- Manage program budgets, ensuring expenses are allocated properly within the budgetary constraints
- Communicates with District Director and Regional Director about potential fundraising opportunities and actively participates in the regional Day of Giving campaign
- The Director should aim to recruit 20+ NCSY teens to summer programs
- At least 3 teens and 3 parents should be engaged weekly outside of clubs (phone calls, meetings, Chavrusas, etc.)
