POSITION SUMMARY: The Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and managerial oversight based on an understanding of the local special needs community. Specifically, the Director creates community awareness, partnerships, and development opportunities, as well as oversees programming, staff training and management, and community relations in the Detroit area. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the Detroit chapter is strategically growing in order to best serve the special needs community and to promote inclusion within every aspect of Jewish life.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, with a projected average work load of approximately 20-25 hours per week, divided between typical business day hours and some evening/weekend programming responsibilities. The position requires one to two trips to the NY area annually.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Planning and executing weekly social/recreational events for individuals with special needs and their peers
  • Increasing membership and peer participation through outreach and recruitment efforts
  • Developing an infrastructure for future fundraising by increasing community awareness and engaging lay leaders

 

Additional responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining a teen leadership board
  • Developing and fostering relationships with community organizations
  • Performing administrative and clerical duties necessary for the effective and successful running of the chapter
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of participants
  • Adhering to the standards and expectations of Yachad’s National Department

 

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals with special needs
  • Excellent with written and oral communication, and great interpersonal skills
  • Multi-tasker with great time management skills, organized and detail oriented
  • Programming experience ideal
  • Familiarity and comfort working with Orthodox Jewish community
  • Proficiency with programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and all platforms of social media
  • Experience working with teens preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
