About the Orthodox Union

Founded in 1898, the Orthodox Union, (OU), serves as the voice of American Orthodox Jewry, with over 400 congregations in its synagogue network. As the umbrella organization for American Orthodox Jewry, the OU is at the forefront of advocacy work on both state and federal levels, outreach to Jewish teens and young professionals through NCSY and Birthright Israel/Israel Free Spirit trip organizer, and Yachad, the National Jewish Council for Disabilities, among many other divisions and programs.

About the Marketing and Communications Department

The OU Marketing and Communications Department is responsible for all external marketing and communications efforts on behalf of the Orthodox Union and its programs.  The department serves as a strategic guardian of the brand, a central resource for marketing expertise and execution and is focused on growing the impact and reach of the organization and its programming.

Position Summary

The Director of Marketing Operations will be charged with introducing and leading the project management discipline within the Marketing and Communications Department.  This person will not only serve as a key strategic partner for the Chief Marketing Officer but will also be charged with the responsibility of designing processes; managing risk; and bringing discipline, rigor and accountability to all marketing activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide overall marketing leadership, represent and champion the role of project management while building influence and relationships across organizational leadership
  • Collaborate with the CMO to define the department’s service offering
  • Manage department budget by negotiating contracts and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and collaborate with CMO in the budgeting process
  • Lead prioritization, planning and scheduling across the department
  • Optimize the project intake and delivery process
  • Design internal process to facilitate quality and efficient centralized marketing services
  • Promote executional excellence across all marketing outputs
  • Oversee contracts and standards of all external partners and services
  • Manage internal resource allocation
  • Oversee compliance with internal and external standards and best practices (e.g., rights clearance, licensing, legal, etc.)
  • Contribute to building a roster of partners, tools and solutions to solve marketing needs
  • Own and centralize the tools and services necessary for efficient workflows
  • Define roles and responsibilities for the project management team
  • Train and supervise three project management and content management team members
  • Reports to Chief Marketing Officer

Prior Experience, Competencies and Skills Required

  • Seven (7)+ years’ experience as an advertising agency or client-side project management professional
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Leadership skills necessary for establishing the marketing operations discipline in a legacy organization
  • Resourceful and solution-oriented in the day-to-day oversight of teams, projects and individuals
  • Ability to represent and effectively communicate the role that marketing operations has within an organization
  • Deep understanding of the craft of project management, work flow and supporting infrastructure
  • Demonstrable, wide knowledge of the tools, services and processes necessary to power a marketing operations team
  • Contract negotiation expertise
  • Proficient in fundamental software such as MS Office, Adobe Suite, workflow tools, and collaboration tools
