DEPARTMENT: Office of the General Counsel 


LOCATION: New York City, NY 




The Orthodox Union (OU) is the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for the disabled, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service, whose circled U symbol, , is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products. 



The Office of the General Counsel provides professional legal services, advice and counsel in support of the OU and its mission.   It is responsible for the legal and regulatory oversight of every branch of the OU. The Legal Coordinator will be responsible for running all aspects of the General Counsel’s office. The Legal Coordinator must have project management skills, be extremely detail-oriented and project a professional company image through all modes of communication.  



  • Prepare correspondence, reports, memos, letters, materials for publications and
  • presentations and other documents, using word processing, spreadsheets, database, or
    presentation software. 
  • Manage and triage all legal requests which come into the General Counsel’s office.  
  • Manage and maintain the General Counsel’s calendar. 
  • Monitor the department’s budget and prepare and maintain Executive expense reports. 
  • Setup and coordinate meetings and conferences. 
  • Attend meetings and create, transcribe, and distribute meeting agendas and minutes. 
  • Perform general office duties. 
  • Manage projects from start to finish. 
  • Draft Legal Documents for General Counsel.  
  • Organize emails and create timelines for lawsuits. 
  • Assist with tasks related to the OU’s various insurance policies 
  • Assist with the OU’s insurance renewal process. 
  • Communicate and collaborate on weekly intradepartmental insurance matters. 
  • Communicate with the organization’s insurance brokers.  
  • Other administrative duties as required.

  • 2-3 years of previous office work experience  
  • Paralegal experience a plus  
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • The ability to follow directions, ask relevant questions, and work independently.  



The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $80,000.
